Quassia, also known as bitter ash, is obtained from the wood of a Jamaican tree. It has been used in the Caribbean and Central America for centuries as a digestive aid and to kill intestinal parasites. Queen of the Meadow contains anti-inflammatory compounds including salicylic acid. Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) was named after Queen of the Meadow’s old botanical name, spiraea ulmaria. Red Raspberry leaves are used primarily in formulations promoting reproductive health, normalizing menstrual flow, and reducing menstrual pain. Red raspberry is one of the safest and most effective treatments for nausea of pregnancy. It is said to promote breast milk production. Its analgesic and antiseptic properties make it useful in managing cancer sores and sore throats. The fresh fruit is helpful in removing and preventing plaque build-up on teeth. Rhubarb Root refers to species of rhubarb grown in Tibet and China. The species of rhubarb grown for food in the United States is not used medicinally. Herbal rhubarb root is used primarily for its gentle laxative effect. It is also helpful in eliminating pinworms. Rhubarb root may cause the urine to turn deep yellow or red, but this is not harmful.
