Poison oak, which is as irritating as poison ivy, commonly grows among oaks and is commonly mistaken for young oak trees since the leaves look the same. The key to recognizing poison oak is that the leaves always appear in sets of three.

  • Wash any clothing exposed to poison ivy thoroughly to remove residual plant resin. Clothing that is worn while the resin is present will trigger another attack.
